Double your donation in Big Give’s Christmas Challenge 2022.
Help Plastic Free North Devon build an active cohort of engaged young people working for the benefit of nature and the community by taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge to raise £13,000 in just 1 week! The funds will be used to develop and deliver their evolving education programme through their Ocean Explorer Academy.
The project aims to deliver a nature-based educational programme to local schools that provides a pathway for pupils in KS3 to learn about their local environment, develop personal skills and provide support for them to engage with issues they choose and work for the benefit of nature and the local community.
The charity have already already secured funding from the Swire Foundation, Badur Foundation and HolidayCottages.co.uk for part of their programme and is already delivering elements to their pilot schools, but need funds to be able to take students on their final and rewarding element of the project - a trip to Lundy Island, the UK’s 1st designated marine conservation area. These trips provide an opportunity to fully explore the island, both above and below water, an experience that is out of reach for many
Claire Moodie, CEO, Plastic Free North Devon
‘’Our passion for connecting the younger generation to the natural world is the very foundation of our education project. The quote ‘No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced’ is widely used but it’s the mechanisms by which we transition and connect these young people to feel invested and empowered to take action – therein lies the missing piece. This project aims to not only connect with the natural world on their doorstep but provide opportunities for them to get involved and take action both in their schools and across our community alongside other environmental partners. It's the most impactful and meaningful project we have ever run, so please dig deep and help us get the most out of the 2022 Big Give Christmas Challenge.”
Donations to the Ocean Explorer Academy Project will be generously matched by The Big Gives Champion, The Reed Foundation and Plastic Free North Devon's supporter Turnstyles Designs meaning your money can support twice as many students.
