Operations Manager: Jacques Roux
Actions to date:
Replaced all plastic straws with 100% biodegradable and paper straws. We only give straws if a customer asks, and this has also reduced usage by at least 50%
We use only compostable takeaway containers including coffee cups and lids
Biodegradable cutlery for takeaways
We use only dis-solvable paper food labels
At The Thatch we have changed all single use condiment sachets for refillable glass containers or ramekins of condiment
We have changed all bottled water for sale to glass instead of plastic, and are pursuing the same route with all plastic bottles i.e. Kids drinks.
Recycle all glass, plastic, tins, cardboard and ink cartridges.
We also recycle all our food waste which is currently turned into energy and fertiliser for Langage Farm dairy product production. This is also under review to look into this energy going into our local grid.
“The Good Food & Drink Company are very proud of our reduce, reuse and recycle policy. We only team with local partners so as to reduce our carbon footprint and support local businesses. We are currently in talks with our meat, dairy, fruit and vegetable suppliers to reduce the amount of plastic packaging as well as taking on Viridor Waste Management to recycle all meat-contaminated vacuum packaging, something that has has now become possible. We are very passionate about working closely with and supporting environmental organisations such as Surfers Against Sewage to not only reduce the amount of plastics used but also keep our beaches and oceans clean. If we all stand together and make a small change we can conserve and protect our planet for future generations”
