The Riverside is a fun and friendly family run cafe and restaurant proudly serving fresh, local and seasonal dishes.

Actions to date:

  • Replaced plastic straws with 100% biodegradable ones and does not give them out unless someone specifically asks

  • Compostable takeaway containers

  • Wooden cutlery for takeaways

  • Offers tap water refills (part of the Refill Devon scheme)

  • Uses paper food labels 

  • Reuses food delivery containers for food prep

  • Vegetables delivered in cardboard boxes by their local supplier, Edds, which are then collected and sent back to them creating a circular loop of local reuse

  • Recycles all glass, plastic, tins and cardboard and is collected by 'coastal' recycling

  • Offers a small discount for takeaway drinks for those bringing a reusable mug

Hayley says: ''Since opening 6 years ago it's amazing to see the growth of awareness towards recycling and reusing. We are so proud to announce that we are 100% plastic free on our consumables and are hoping to convince are suppliers to stop sending our products in single use plastics. 

“We've always recycled and have always been aware that we needed to make other changes. Ultimately it's not difficult, especially with the incentive of saving our planet.
