What to Expect:

This guided walk will follow the path around baggy point, on the South West Coast Path. Paul will cover some of the important features of the coastline and how the landscape was formed as well as looking at some of the flora and fauna that is present on the point.

For this walk a reasonable degree of fitness is required; there are a few rougher sections that could be muddy in places (hence strong walking shoes or boots; some may wish to use walking poles), and there maybe a few styles to negotiate depending on the route taken on the day. Please wear walking shoes or walking boots, especially if staying for the afternoon’s walk.

No dogs to be brought on this walk please. Children are welcome, but must be closely supervised by a responsible adult.

Getting there:

We encourage attendees to use public transport, an appropriate bus (21C bus) leaves Braunton outside the Coop shop at 09.26am for those coming from Braunton. Arriving outside Ruda Holiday Park at c.9:50am – Walkers can then walk along the footpath 5 mins to the National Trust Car park. Please arrive for a 10am start, all participants meeting next to the pay meter in the NT car park. Free for NT members.

About the guide:

Paul was brought up in South Norfolk; London Uni BSc & PhD, Sussex Uni MSc; 7yrs of Soils Research at Rothamsted (Harpenden); 24yrs lecturing at college/university in London on Geology, Geography, Ecology, Science & Society; early retirement late 1990s to Braunton, with 6yrs part-time for NT at Baggy, incl. recruiting and guided walks; active member of many “natural history” related bodies, including Devon Wildlife Trust, Devon Birds.
