Barnstaple Repair Cafe

Join the repair revolution! - This is a FREE service!

Come along any time 10am-1pm at Barnstaple Pannier Market to bring your items back to life, learn new skills, save money and the planet!

This month we aim to offer:

👖 Textiles repairs
Such as replacing zips and buttons (bring your own zips and buttons), darning teddy bears, simple alterations, visible darning

📻 Small electrical & mechanical repairs
Such as radios, headphones, cameras etc

🧸 Toy repairs
Such as reattaching teddy limbs and eyes!

💍 Jewellery repairs
Minor repairs such broken links in necklace chains

💻 IT Support
For software-related problems that you can bring with you (such as laptops and tablets), and general IT advice on most subjects specialising windows & apps software problems (less familiar with Apple products)

However, as we rely on volunteers, we can't always guarantee that all these skills will be available.
If you have any questions, email info@plasticfreenorthdevon.org at least 48 hours before the event to give us time to respond.

We are not a professional repair service, so please don’t bring us ‘fancy’ repairs like wedding dresses - just drop us a message if you’re not sure.

☕We will also be serving cake and hot drinks to keep you refreshed while you watch and learn.

Big Saunton Beach Clean

Get some fresh air, feel good and do good! Come down anytime between 11am and 1pm.

✅Free parking for volunteers

✅Hot drinks will be provided (in a reusable cup only) by the wonderful Saunton Break Cafe - Remember to bring your own cup!

✅Beach cleaning equipment is provided but if you have your own, bring it with you.

🙏This year’s beach cleans are being made possible by our ongoing partnership with Saunton stakeholders; Christie's Estates, Saunton Beach Enterprises Ltd,  Saunton Break Cafe, Braunton Countryside Centre and Saunton Surf Life Saving Club.  The events continue to be supported by Saunton Hotdoggers, Walking on Waves surf school, Surf Saunton North Devon, Saunton Surf Sisters, National Landscapes and local Surfers Against Sewage reps.

We will also attempt to run a MCS Survey or a brand audit, depending on the amount of volunteers/conditions. Please make yourself known if you want to help with this.

Ilfracombe Repair Cafe & NEW Skills Workshop

NEW this month, we are bringing your the first on a series of Skills Workshops (alongside our regular Repair Cafes) across North Devon! These are both FREE events - donations are welcomed but not expected.

The Skills Workshop will run 11am-2pm at Delta, 71 High Street, Ilfracombe, EX34 9NG. Our talented volunteers will be offering the following skills to learn:

• Beginner sewing
• Visible mending - knitwear patching
• Sashiko - embroidered patches
• How to service your bike

The Repair Cafe will run as usual, come along anytime 11am-2pm to Hand:Plant Cafe on Ilfracombe High Street.

We aim to offer the following repairs:

🧵 General repairs, eg all and sundry - message us to check if you have a specific query!

👚 Textiles, eg replace zips and buttons (bring your own zips and buttons), simple alterations, visible darning

🧸 Toy repairs - bring your teddies, trucks and more along and our volunteers will do their best to bring them back to life

🧶 Knitting and crochet - wool garments, blankets, toys etc

However, as we rely on volunteers, we can't always guarantee that all these skills will be available.

Earth Day Event

Join us for a spectacular event for Earth Day 2024 on Sunday 21st April at Braunton Countryside Centre.

This day will be a chance to explore your own visions for a better planet in 2030 and beyond with Plastic Free North Devon’s very own time machine!

With many planet positive workshops to include ‘surviving life in a plastic system’, repair café taster session, seed bomb making, energy bikes & sustainable travel promotion, with pop up bird watching on the Tarka Trail, advice on energy efficiency, petitions to sign and much more.

This is a free event but donations are welcomed throughout the day to support the various local charities involved.

We want to get people thinking about the future in a positive way and start them on the journey (with us) to get there.

If you have any textiles or clothing, which need a minor repair, bring it along and our skilled volunteers will mend it. This is a free service (although donations are always welcome).

Big Saunton Beach Clean

Get some fresh air, feel good and do good! Come down anytime between 11am and 1pm.

✅Free parking for volunteers

✅Hot drinks will be provided (in a reusable cup only) by the wonderful Saunton Break Cafe - Remember to bring your own cup!

✅Beach cleaning equipment is provided but if you have your own, bring it with you.

We will also attempt to run a MCS Survey or a brand audit, depending on the amount of volunteers/conditions. Please make yourself known if you want to help with this.

🎧🪩Silent Disco Beach Clean! Yes you heard it right, Plastic Free Woolacombe along with The National Trust North Devon are having some fun with their Easter Beach Clean this Sunday!

🕺🗑You can boogie your way along the beach collecting plastics and rubbish as you go!

Or perhaps you have a jumper in need of darning, a shirt missing a button or a top with a tear? Bring it along! Our volunteers will be happy to look at it. Join the repair revolution!

Come along any time 10am-12pm at The YMCA on Mill Street, South Molton to bring your items back to life, learn new skills, save money and the planet!

This month we are pleased to offer:

🧵Textiles repairs (always available) - Such as replacing zips and buttons (bring your own zips and buttons), darning teddy bears, simple alterations, visible darning.

🔨Simple carpentry and handman-type repairs

📻 Soldering and other small electrical repairs

🖥 ICT support

💍 Basic jewellery repairs

However, as we rely on volunteers, we can't always guarantee that all these skills will be available.
If you have any questions, email info@plasticfreenorthdevon.org at least 48 hours before the event to give us time to respond.

👉Please note:
We are not a professional repair service, so please don’t bring us ‘fancy’ repairs like wedding dresses. If you are unsure on whether to bring an item or not - please email info@plasticfreenorthdevon.org and we will run it by our sewing stars to see what we can do.

💸 This is a FREE service! Donations are welcome but not expected.

💚 We'd love it if you could stay whilst we repair your items, our cafes are about building community connection and sharing skills too.

We are always on the lookout for a few more volunteers, either to share their mending skills at the Cafes or to help out behind the scenes and welcome people on the day. You don’t need to be a professional seamstress or upholsterer or mechanic to volunteer - just someone with some basic skills who is happy to share what they know or a friendly welcoming face to help run the event. There is no pressure to undertake any repairs that you are not confident with.

Ilfracombe Repair Cafe

Join the repair revolution! 🌍💚 Come along anytime 11am-2pm

***This is a free event***

⚙️Sewing machine repairs eg tension adjustment and other small mechanicals

🚲 Basic bike repairs

🧵 General repairs, eg all and sundry - message us to check if you have a specific query!

👚 Textiles, eg replace zips and buttons (bring your own zips and buttons), simple alterations, visible darning

🧸 Toy repairs - bring your teddies, trucks and more along and our volunteers will do their best to bring them back to life

🧶 Knitting and crochet - wool garments, blankets, toys etc

💍 Basic jewellery repairs, eg twisted jump rings, restringing

However, as we rely on the help of volunteers, sometimes we may only be able to offer textile repairs - please email us at least 48 hours before the event (to give us a chance to see your message and get back to you) to ask if a particular item can be repaired.

☕The cafe will be open serving cake and hot drinks, should you wish to purchase, but there is no pressure or expectation to buy.

Our Ilfracombe Repair Cafe is a partnership project, part of PFND’s expanding Repair Cafe network, jointly hosted by Ilfracombe’s Earth Repair Shop and hand:plant cafe, with the support of volunteers from the local community.

Plastic Free North Devon are building on the success of their original Braunton and Repair Cafes, thanks to funding from the National Lottery Together For Our Planet Community Fund, and supporting North Devon towns and villages to get their own Repair Cafes up and running. PFND are also members of the national Repair Cafe Network. There are currently Repair Cafes in Braunton, Landkey, Ilfracombe, and Barnstaple.

Barnstaple Repair Cafe

Join the repair revolution!

Come along anytime 10am-1pm

• Textiles repairs
Such as replacing zips and buttons (bring your own zips and buttons), darning teddy bears, simple alterations, visible darning

• Small electrical repairs
Such as radios, headphones, cameras etc

• IT Support
For software-related problems that you can bring with you (such as laptops and tablets), and general IT advice on most subjects specialising windows & apps software problems (less familiar with Apple products)

However, as we rely on the help of volunteers, sometimes we may only be able to offer textile repairs - please email us at least 48 hours before the event (to give us a chance to see your message and get back to you) to ask if a particular item can be repaired.

If you have something which needs a minor repair, bring it along and our skilled volunteers will mend it. This is a free service (although donations are always welcome).

Come along anytime between 10am and 1pm

👖If you have a pair of jeans in need of a new zip, a skirt that needs hemming, curtains that could do with shortening, we can help! Or perhaps you have a jumper in need of darning, a shirt missing a button or a top with a tear? Bring it along! Our volunteers will be happy to look at it. Please bring with you the zip or button etc. that you’d like to be used.

We are not a professional repair service, so would not be able to take on any large or complex repairs such as fitting a wedding dress for example. If you are unsure whether to bring an item please email us and we’ll see what we can do: info@plasticfreenorthdevon.org

☕The cafe will be serving cakes and hot drinks, should you wish to buy any, but there is no obligation.

The North Devon Christmas Markets

The North Devon Christmas Market is coming to Bideford!

The market will showcase over 50 of the very best craftspeople and small businesses, creating a fantastic bespoke shopping experience. And Plastic Free North Devon will be there offering a gift wrap service for your purchases in return for a donation.

It promises to be a truly authentic Christmas atmosphere. Hot mulled wine will be served, and some fantastic street foods too!
