Join the repair revolution! - This is a FREE service!
Pop along to Barnstaple Library foyer any time between 10am and 12.30pm at Barnstaple Library to bring your items back to life, learn new skills, save money and the planet!
This project is now well established, moving into it’s third year.
Barnstaple Repair Cafes from 2025 onwards will be operated by Barnstaple Town Council’s One Barnstaple Community Developer with the support from a team of enthusiastic helpers from us here at PFND, Barnstaple Library and other local groups and services.
Each month the team aim to offer:
👖 Textiles repairs
Such as replacing zips and buttons (bring your own zips and buttons), teddy bear A&Es, simple alterations and mending of clothing and small household soft furnishings
📻 Small electrical & mechanical repairs, tool sharpening and PAT testing
Such as radios, headphones, cameras etc
Repair Cafe’s rely on volunteers, so they can't always guarantee all these skills will be available every month - Follow them on Facebook where you can pop a message through if you have any queries - best to do it at least 48 hours before the event to give them time to respond.
👉Please note:
This is not a professional repair service, so please don’t bring ‘fancy’ repairs like wedding dresses - just drop them a message if you’re not sure or pop in and ask at one of the sessions. (see email address above)
☕Hot drinks will be served to keep you refreshed while you watch and learn.
💸 This is a FREE service! Donations are welcome to help the cafe continue but are not expected.
💚 Staying whilst your items are repaired is preferred as cafes are about building community connection and sharing skills too.
📆UPCOMING BARNSTAPLE REPAIR CAFES 📆

Can’t make any of these or looking to find one closer to you? Check out our What’s Calendar for all of our Repair Cafes in South Molton, Landkey, Bishops Tawton, Ilfracombe and Braunton plus ones hosted by others too: https://plasticfreenorthdevon.org/whats-on
🙋♀️VOLUNTEER WITH US🙋♀️
We are always on the lookout for a few more volunteers, either to share their mending skills at the Cafes or to help out behind the scenes and welcome people on the day. You don’t need to be a professional seamstress or upholsterer or mechanic to volunteer - just someone with some basic skills who is happy to share what they know or a friendly welcoming face to help run the event. There is no pressure to undertake any repairs that you are not confident with.
Please get in touch with us on info@plasticfreenorthdevon.org if you would like to get involved for volunteering there’s an expression of interest form here: Volunteering with One Barnstaple .
🙏THANKS AND FUTURE PLANS🙏
The Barnstaple Repair Cafe has been a partnership project since 2023, part of Plastic Free North Devon’s expanding Repair Cafe network. For 2025 onwards, Barnstaple Town Council’s One Barnstaple Community Developer will now be supporting the events with us as a key stakeholder. Barnstaple Repair Cafes haves been made possible thanks to many stakeholders; NDVS, Barnstaple Rotary Link Club, Barnstaple Library and One Barnstaple as well as support from Barnstaple Town Council and of course, our incredible volunteers and the local community.
Thanks to previous funding from the Post Code Lottery, NatureSave funding and National Lottery Together For Our Planet Community Fund, and the support of North Devon towns and villages, we currently have repair cafes in Landkey, Braunton, South Molton, Ilfracombe, and Barnstaple.
