What to expect:
Braunton is the gateway to the North Devon Coast AONB and Biosphere Reserve, noted for its special landscapes, including Braunton Burrows, Braunton Great Field and Braunton Marshes. This walk will cover the Braunton Great Field, and Tarka Trail down towards the Velator Pond which are all important habitats for a number of species of bats including the rare Greater Horseshoe Bat.
Throughout the walk we will be listening and looking out for bat species flying overhead whilst they go about their foraging practices at dusk. We will have some portable bat detectors available to share during the walk.
Participants must be pre booked to attend. Tickets available from the Braunton Countryside Centre website
The route includes one stile (optional), one flight of steps at Velator Weir and two road crossings. Please wear sensible footwear and appropriate weather clothing.
All children must be supervised by an adult.
Please also bring a small torch and NO DOGS as they will disturb the wildlife.
